Overview

IIS Space have been the main contractor for long standing client, eir, on multiple retail fitout and high-profile projects. eir have 43 retail stores nationwide in both high street and shopping centre locations, no two of which are ever the exact same. On each project, meticulous planning has been crucial in order to minimise the number days the retail store is closed for business and to ensure a consistent brand experience is created in each location.

THE PROCESS

Bringing eircom to the high street

This project put the ‘eircom’ name back on the high street and entailed the full refurbishment of 43 stores nationwide. Two different designs were implemented across the portfolio and the project was completed over two phases.

Phase 1 consisted of 26 stores and was carried out over a 3-month period, with up to 4 stores being on site simultaneously. Programme planning and implementation was crucial in this phase as all stores needed to be fully operational for the busy Christmas period.

Phase 2 works

Phase 2 saw the second design implemented in 17 stores.

Key to both phases was the co-ordination and communication with the various landlords and shopping centre management teams across the country who all have their own procedures that must be followed during the retail store fitout.

  • The detailed works included:
  • Demolitions
  • New shop fronts and roller shutters where required
  • New ceilings and lighting
  • Floors and wall finishes
  • Installation of new joinery including live mobile phone display tables
  • Installation of internal and external signage
  • Formation of interactive, live TV areas

As the footprint of each store was different and posed its own challenges, the design and fitout solution had to be tweaked for each location.

THE SOLUTION

Delivering reimagined retail spaces nationwide a key part of the eir brand launch

In 2015, eircom rebranded as eir and this meant substantial changes to their retail stores.

Works included;

  • New external signage and update of shop fronts with new brand colours
  • Replacing internal joinery and signage elements
  • Adjustments to ceiling light features.

New flagship store concept

Central to this retail fitout project was the flagship store on Dublin’s Henry Street with its bespoke design. The unveiling of the store formed part of the overall brand launch day activities. This store was a completely new look and feel for the brand with features including;

  • A mobile phone display table running through the centre of the store.
  • Internal signage with rotating colours
  • A ‘Connected Living’ showcase area

Timing was of the essence with this project as all stores needed to unveil the new brand at the same time on launch day. Some innovative solutions were deployed to allow staff to unveil the external signage on the day.
