A stunning flagship acoustic piano showroom with sound insulated practice studios designed for C. Bechstein, in the heart of Manchester’s vibrant Northern Quarter. The space features a stunning open plan piano showroom, six purpose built sound insulated practice studios and an elegant, intimate recital space. The design was developed with great care for both the C. Bechstein product, brand, and the local environment. Taking inspiration from Manchester’s industrial past and rich classical music heritage. The showroom harmonizes raw materials, steel and bespoke fluted concrete and timber to present the incredible craftsmanship and beauty of each piano displayed within the space.

THE PROCESS

IIS Space together created a stunning flagship acoustic piano showroom for C. Bechstein in the heart of Manchester’s vibrant Northern Quarter. The space comprises of a double height, acoustically designed retail showroom, six purpose built sound insulated practice and teaching studios, offices, client lounge, kitchen/ bar and an elegant, intimate recital space.

The showroom is a multifunctional space, with each element, the showroom itself, the practice studios and recital area working in harmony together, presenting an approachable environment for all visitors. The welcome desk is custom made with inset brass laser-cut lettering. Creating a focal point, inviting visitors into the showroom, greeting users of the practice rooms, and providing space for champagne receptions for recital performances. The showroom itself has a welcoming and spaciousness.

A Stunning Entrance

OPEN PLAN

The open plan layout is designed to allow a natural flow of people throughout the inspiring grand and upright piano showrooms. Both offering the flexibility to move pianos as needed and allowing access to the visitor lounge/ home setting and workshop area. The recital space forms part of this open plan showroom, a bespoke suspended curtaining system encloses the low stage, creating a magical and intimate setting for both the guest and performer. The practise studios are positioned away from the main showroom, framed, and highlighted by high bespoke cast concrete wall panelling and dramatic glass chandeliers in smoked glass and contrasting against the moody tones of the exposed ceiling and services.
